Somniphobia, Fear of Sleep

I know it's totally irrational and that's what makes it worse. I have a very bad fear of sleep. What I hate is that it goes away from time to time and leaves me in peace, and then returns randomly.
I've lived a year without any trouble and then had over two weeks of anxiety and grief. I love sleep when it finally happens and can stay asleep easily; it's the falling asleep part that terrifies me.
I have a very irrational and strong fear of losing control and being unaware of myself and my surroundings for a long period of time. It causes me intense stress and has driven me to tears and terror many times.
