some help
by: Anonymous

Hi Brianna, I am a psych major (undergrad) at a university and I think I might be able to help you.

I don't think your fear is actually being alone at night, since you never had this problem before you moved. I think you have anxiety that keeps you awake at night, and it may be related to worries about your boyfriend, since it only happens when he is not there. You must try to identify the cause of the anxiety you experience during your alone time. Try to think about what it is that you are worried or stressed over. Talk to your doctor about anti-anxiety meds, these might be helpful for you.

Because you never had this problem before, I can say with certainty that it is totally psychological and can be fixed just as quickly as it started, upon defining and coping with the cause of your stress.

In the meantime, you could try all types of different things to soothe you and help you sleep better before bed. Find a ritual and keep it up every day, even on the weekends when your boyfriend is home. For example, take a warm bath to relax yourself, light a candle with a calming scent, etc. You could also rearrange the layout of your bedroom for a fresh start. All these things will mentally prepare you for a good night's rest.

Hope this helps
