Exposure Therapy For Overcoming Phobia
Exposure therapy is a part of CBT focusing on behavior rather than thoughts. This therapy involves starting to confront the fear and stopping avoiding it. When exposed to the feared situation, the person is taught to tolerate their high levels of anxiety.

After 30 minutes or so, anxiety levels naturally fall, as the body cannot keep up this highly aroused state when there is no logical reason to be frightened.

However, this treatment can prove to be dangerous at times as a patient going through such a treatment form has all possibilities of experiencing panic attacks.

Counseling For Overcoming Phobia
Counseling is also helpful for overcoming phobia, but it plays a supporting role with other treatments. Generally, people are relaxed and charged with positive thinking while discussing with friends or family members or sometimes with some trained psychologist.

However, in case of counseling the success of the treatment to an extent depends upon the counselor or the person with whom you are interacting.

Relaxation Training
Relaxation training like breathing exercises, muscular relaxation etc provide you a good relaxed body and fresh mind which helps you to reduce the anxiety level. However, it acts well with some proper therapy for overcoming phobia. It is not a self-sufficient procedure itself.

Hypnosis For Overcoming Phobia
Though, it is not scientifically proven, but some people believe it creates a positive impact and a method to fight phobia. The success rate of this treatment form is quite a controversial issue.

Medication
Medication is not used to prevent phobia directly. It helps to give you relief against phobia-associated conditions like depression, high anxiety level etc.

Some drugs like benzodiazepines (such as diazepam, also known as Valium) are commonly used to ease symptoms in the initial stages and beta-blocker group of drugs are for high anxiety symptoms.

You should take drugs with proper direction of an expert for short times to avoid dependency on drugs.
