I am also extremely afraid of snakes. I found that I'm not afraid that they will bite me or choke me. It's just THEM. I feel that they are evil, a product of satan, and that they want to hurt us. So far I haven't met anyone who feels the same way, and it's making me feel very alone, even crazy.
