I'm terrified of popping ballons
by: Sarah

For the past 3-4 years I have become teffified of balloons. As a child I remember going to parties and playing with the balloons. Some where this fear and anxiety has come from but I don't know where. It has now dveloped further as now I don't like loud noises in general. I avoid going to places where balloons are and am constantly looking out for them. However, I am glad there are other people out there with the same fear as me, and i'm not the only one.

Me, too!

I, too, fear the thought of popping balloons. In grade school, our teacher often had games where you had to pop a balloon to find your "number" or something on a piece of paper inside the balloon. The other kids would joyfully stomp or sit on theirs, I would hand mine over to the teacher to pop. My 3-year-old son is the same-- we bought a pack of balloons that came with a small hand pump and one of the balloons came off as we were inflating it and few all around the room with that horrible squealing sound. He instantly ran off sobbing and still is uneasy around pumps, and really has to warm up slowly to the punch-ball balloons. Needless to say, he was afraid of the big balloons at the balloon rally. One of the ones we were watching as it was being inflated started to drift toward the crowd, and he had an absolute melt-down.
